چکیده

This paper describes experiences from the implementation of backward recovery for a commercial production workflow system. As a result of our research we found that compensation based backwards recovery is the most suitable approach for an external solution. Most importantly, the work has demonstrated that providing business level backward recovery is possible in the workflow domain, and that external, design-level work is relevant for product enhancement. The production workflow system used for the implementation of our work is IBM MQ Workflow. The advanced prototype is named FlowBack. We believe that the success of, and interest in, FlowBack indicates that workflow systems will need to go the way of database management systems and provide more transactionability as they mature. The FlowBack project lays the groundwork for production workflow systems and can easily be adapted to systems conforming to the Workflow Management Coalition standards.

LES/FMDF of premixed methane/air flow in a backward-facing step combustor

In the present study, a hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian methodology is utilized for large eddy simulation (LES) of premixed fuel/air flow over a three-dimensional backward facing step (BFS). The fluid dynamic features are obtained by solving the Eulerian filtered compressible transport equations while the species are predicted by using the filtered mass density function method (FMDF).  Some scalar f...

Generic Workflow Models: How to Handle Dynamic Change and Capture Management Information?

† Part of this work was done at AIFB (University of Karlsruhe, Germany) and LSDIS (Univeristy of Georgia, USA) during a sabbatical leave. Abstract Traditionally, workflow management systems are used to support static processes, i.e., processes which do not change frequently. This has limited the scope of workflow management. Moreover, the networked economy of the new millennium requires workflo...

FlowBack: Providing Backward Recovery for Workflow Management Systems

The Distributed Systems Technology Centre (DSTC) framework for workflow specification, verification and management captures workflows transaction-like behavior for long lasting processes. FlowBack is an advanced prototype functionally enhancing an existing workflow management system by providing process backward recovery. It is based on extensive theoretical research ([3],[4],[5],[6],[8],[9]), ...

How to handle dynamic change and capture management information? An approach based on generic workflow models

Today’s workflow management systems have problems dealing with both ad-hoc changes and evolutionary changes. As a result, the workflow management system is not used to support dynamically changing workflow processes or the workflow process is supported in a rigid manner, i.e., changes are not allowed or handled outside of the workflow management system. This paper addresses two notorious proble...

POD analysis of flow over a backward-facing step forced by right-angle-shaped plasma actuator

PURPOSE This study aims to present flow control over the backward-facing step with specially designed right-angle-shaped plasma actuator and analyzed the influence of various scales of flow structures on the Reynolds stress through snapshot proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). METHODS 2D particle image velocimetry measurements were conducted on region (x/h = 0-2.25) and reattachment zone in...
